The purpose of this project is to upgrade the S.R. 9/I-95 at C.R. 702/45th Street interchange from a six-lane diamond interchange to an eight-lane diamond interchange. This will improve operational capacity, safety, connectivity and mobility within this congested interchange. Work includes widening and resurfacing ramps and roadways, adding new turn lanes and bicycle lanes, and pedestrian features to enhance safety and reduce congestion for all travelers.
• Widen the existing six-lane diamond interchange to an eight-lane configuration to improve traffic flow, safety, and mobility.
• Widen and reconstruct the interchange entrance and exit ramps, including adding an additional southbound left-turn lane and right-turn lane, and an additional northbound left-turn lane and right-turn lane.
• Add new bicycle lanes from Northpoint Boulevard to North Congress Avenue.
• Widen the existing bridge over the C-17 Canal to accommodate new bicycle lanes.
• Install new traffic signal mast arms throughout the interchange and replace existing span-wire signals.
• Add overhead sign structures on I-95 northbound and southbound off-ramps and within the interchange.
• Installation of an Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) for real-time travel information and traffic management.
• Construction will be completed in phases to minimize interruption to traffic.
• Access will be maintained for properties during construction.
