Project Purpose

The purpose of the project is to extend the service life of the bridge by performing repair and rehabilitation, and to enhance roadway safety along S.R. A1A/Ocean Boulevard Bridge # 930060 over the Boca Inlet.

Project Improvements

•  Provide bridge repairs to improve its resiliency
•  Install erosion control measures to protect the bridge foundation and maintain safety for motorists
•  Replace bridge mechanical and electrical systems to maintain accessibility for motorists and boaters
•  Install a 5-foot riding surface on both sides of the existing bridge deck to improve safety for cyclists
•  Repair the bridge pier protection system to improve safety for boaters

Construction Impacts

  • Work will be done in phases to minimize impacts to the community
  • Full bridge closure, including pedestrian and bicycle access, will be allowed for a total construction time of 60 days. A detour will be provided via Hillsboro Boulevard, U.S. 1, and Palmetto Park Road
  • Marine vessel traffic will be maintained with a temporary closure of half the channel during fender construction and scour countermeasures installation
  • Temporary lane closures will be required for some phases (such as materials drop-off) and will occur during non-peak hours
  • Access to properties on both sides of the bridge will be maintained during construction
