Scope of Work:
- Repave the existing roadway to improve the resiliency of our infrastructure.
- Widen the paved shoulders from 3-feet to 5-feet along both sides of SR A1A from Ibis Way to Sloan’s Curve to better accommodate cyclists who wish to use the roadway.
- Install shared lane markings indicating cyclists should be expected in the lane from Sloan’s Curve to the north end of the project to increase driver awareness and increase safety for cyclists.
- Upgrade signs and pavement markings to meet current standards and increase reflectivity.
- Install advisory speed limit signs, painted speed limits on the pavement, and internally illuminated pavement markers on reverse curve approaches to improve safety for drivers by alerting them to the upcoming curves.
- Replace existing 1,080 feet asphalt sidewalk with a 6-foot concrete sidewalk on the west side of SR A1A from north of Ibis Way to south of Sloan’s Curve.
- Replace guardrail at Sloan’s Curve to improve safety for occupants of errant vehicles leaving the roadway.
- Address flooding at 1800 South Ocean Boulevard by replacing the French drain system at that location, improving the safety of the roadway.
Construction Impacts:
- Work will be done in three (3) phases to reduce the impacts to the community.
- During Phase I, the road will be narrowed to one lane to construct the drainage improvements in front of 1800 Block for approximately 270 feet for approximately six (6) weeks.
- Traffic patterns will be maintained by flagger/temporary signal.
- Lane closures will occur during daytime and nighttime hours on non-event days for Phase I.
- Lane closures will occur during daytime hours on non-event days for Phases II and III.
- Pedestrian traffic will be maintained within the existing sidewalk limits with a temporary walkway outside of the work zone.
- Access to properties along the corridor will be maintained during construction.
