Project Limits: State Road (SR) 5/US1/Federal Highway from north of 87 Street to south Sebastian Boulevard
Project Purpose: Repave and restripe the existing roadway to extend the service life of the
pavement, enhance safety for motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists while updating crosswalks,
ramps and pedestrian signals to comply with the American with Disabilities Act (ADA)
standards.
A Public Meeting Was Held: Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. and was offered in-person and virtually simultaneously.
The public meeting took place at the North Indian River County Library located at 1001 Sebastian Boulevard, Sebastian, Florida 32958.
The virtual public meeting was held via GoToWebinar.
The public meeting consisted of a formal presentation followed by an open discussion. Project staff were available to answer questions and provide assistance. Comments and questions were addressed in the order they were received. If a question was not answered during the event, a written response was provided following the meeting. Questions and comments could also be submitted in advance by contacting the Project Manager.

Estimated Construction Cost: $9.2 million
Scope of Work:
Repave the existing roadway to improve the resiliency of our infrastructure.
Restripe the road to provide 6-foot wide bike lanes with a painted buffer to enhance safety for bicyclists who wish to use the roadway.
Reduce the posted speed to 45 miles per hour (mph).
Replace and upgrade signs and pavement markings to meet current standards and increase reflectivity.
Increase the lighting at pedestrian crosswalks at signalized intersections to make pedestrians more visible to drivers, improving safety.
Modify curb ramps and pedestrian detectors (button) to comply with the ADA to facilitate improved access for users with disabilities.
Construction Impacts:
Work will be done in phases to reduce the effects of construction on the community.
Temporary lane closures will be required during construction.
Repaving and restriping will be performed at night.
Access to businesses and residences will be maintained during construction and pedestrian traffic will be maintained at all times.
